Apple & Cinnamon Baby Food Puree | Hanky's Happy Home

Hanky Pank loves oatmeal. I always find this funny given his initial reaction of coughing every time I offered even a teeny tiny bite. I started with Oatmeal Baby Cereal, but wanted a chunkier consistency as Henry got a little older. In addition, I wanted to add some flavor. While I eat my oatmeal plain, I didn’t feel like Hanky Pank needed to be subjected to the same boring breakfast.

Growing up I remember eating Quaker Apple & Cinnamon Instant Oatmeal every morning. I went through a phase where I swear I ate it every morning for a year straight. So I couldn’t help introducing Hanky Pank to a homemade version of my childhood favorite. This oatmeal isn’t instant, but it’s pretty easy to make a batch and just freeze for later. It’s kind of instant when I warm it up, right?

With the addition of fruit, oatmeal has become a breakfast favorite for Hanky Pank. I couldn’t be happier given the benefits of oats. They’re a great source of protein and fiber, and a good source of iron. And it’s easy to replace apples with other fruits, such as blueberries, pears, or peaches. Even better, it’s fun to experiment with different combinations. It’s even gotten me to add a little fruit to my oatmeal.

  • I know this post is a couple years old but I thought I’d offer a tip on quick-cooking steel cut oats. I have started making them in my instant pot and they take roughly 10 minutes from closing the lid to releasing the pressure. I use 3 cups water for every 1 cup steel oats, add in whatever fruit or toppings, close the lid and set for 3 minutes on high pressure. After the time is up I do a quick release, stir the oats to make sure everything is well combined, then I transfer some to the fridge or freezer depending on how quickly I need to cool it for baby. I love not having to babysit a pot of boiling water on the stove.

    • Hi Heather! The post is a few years old, but I still make Apple & Cinnamon Oatmeal ALL. THE. TIME. I haven’t used my Instant Pot as much as I’d like so I can’t wait to give this a try. Thanks for sharing your tip!
