Apples & Spinach Baby Food Puree
This easy homemade Apple & Spinach Puree is packed with nutrients and tastes delicious.
Spinach was a food I wanted to incorporate into Hanky Pank’s diet but wasn’t sure introduce. In general, I prefer to introduce foods one at a time to see how he’d like it on its own. Often times even if he didn’t love a food the first time it was introduced, he’d often take to it after a few more tries or I’d find it was a little more tolerable with mixed with something else. But I’ll admit it, I didn’t even try with spinach. I like spinach in my salad, but steamed spinach… Kind of ick.
Combining spinach with fruit, such as apples or pears, creates a puree that tastes delicious while providing baby all the benefits of this superfood. Spinach is a good source of vitamin K, vitamin A, vitamin C, folates, not to mention manganese, magnesium, and iron. Apples provides even more vitamin C and fiber.
Similar to Pea Puree, spinach becomes bright green while steaming. If the color starts to dull, the leaves are starting to overcook. Just remove from heat and run under cold water to stop the cooking process. Then puree for a vibrant green puree that tastes great!
