Beet Baby Food Puree | Hanky's Happy Home

Beets are pretty neat. Like the bunch of rainbow carrots I used for my Carrot Baby Food Puree, I was a little obsessed with these golden beets. They’re just beautiful and made me think of fall as our summer comes to an end. But similar to my bunch of rainbow carrots, it’s not necessary to get golden beets instead of red beets. Both have an sweet, earthy taste, although golden beets tend to be a little sweeter. The big advantage in my mind is golden beets are less messy for me to prepare and Hanky Pank to eat.

Beets are a fun vegetable to add to Hanky Pank’s diet. They’re a great source of folate and fiber, which can help reduce constipation. Speaking of which, red beets can change the color of baby’s pee and poop. A word of caution from my mother-in-law gave me that saved me a panicked Google search!

Nitrate Warning: Beets are high in nitrates so there are differing opinions as to whether to introduce beets at 6+ months or 8+ months. If you’re concerned about nitrates, wait until 8+ months or consult your pediatrician. In addition, if you choose to boil beets, do not reserve the cooking water to add to puree to reach desired consistency.

So don’t miss a beet and try my easy Beet Baby Food Puree recipe below. Have a red beet horror story? Definitely share in the comments!
