Let’s talk about dates. I said this in my last post but I want to talk about them some more. Because they’re simply delicious. Dates came into my life a few years ago when I started making Bacon Wrapped Dates with Cream Cheese (note to self: add recipe). Easy to make and an amazing combination of sweet and savory.

Let’s fast forward. Making food for Hanky Pank has made me so much more aware of what we eat. About a month ago I found myself a little obsessive about added sugar (as described in my Fig Bars post). While I’ve come to terms with the fact that sometimes refined sugar is necessary (especially in meringue), I also learned when sugar can be reduced or substituted. Enter Date Paste.

I’ve found Date Paste to be a wonderful substitute for refined sugar. While Dates are naturally high in sugar, I’m generally less concerned about sugar from fruits. That said, sugar is sugar and I still keep moderation in mind when using Date Paste.

Now let’s talk about making Date Paste. It’s so easy to make. Like, this post is more of a how to because a recipe is a bit of a stretch. Try it yourself and see what you think!
