Applesauce
This Applesauce makes a healthy and sweet snack for toddlers (and parents) without added sugar!
With summer coming to a close, I can’t help but find myself excited for fall. Which is kind of odd because I’m not normally a fall person. Instead I’m usually desperately clinging onto summer. But after a hot and busy summer, I’m looking forward to crisp air and relaxing weekends.
So I embraced fall by picking up a few pounds of apple and making a couple batches of applesauce. It’s so easy to make and the flavor combinations are endless. I started off with basic Cinnamon Applesauce, then made Blackberry and Raspberry Applesauce. Not only did our home smell delicious, but Hanky Pank and I happily test tasted each flavor.
When making this Applesauce for Hanky Pank, I skipped the added sugar. For a sweeter applesauce, use sweeter apples. For my applesauce, I used Honeycrisp apples as they’re sweet, in season, and on sale. Other sweet apples include Fuji, Gala, Golden Delicious, Pink Lady, and Red Delicious apples. Similarly, I skipped peeling the apples to keep more nutrients in the applesauce. And peeling sucks.
As for consistency, normally I like chuckier applesauce, which only requires a few seconds in the blender or food processor. This time I wanted to a smooth applesauce, which required a little more time but not much, to put in reusable pouches for on-the-go snacks. Easy peasy!
